Jakarta: Brewing connections before harvest’s end

We were fortunate to visit West Java just as the harvest season was coming to a close. But before heading to the farms, we wanted to spend some time in Jakarta. A city  we’ve noticed our community steadily growing over the past few months

Rather than simply passing through, we wanted to meet the people behind those orders, share our latest coffees in person, and spend a weekend talking about what we all enjoy most: good coffee

Public Cupping at The Room

 

Shayla and Ryan have been talking about hosting an event together for quite some time. Instead of creating an exclusive, reservation-only gathering, we decided to keep it open to everyone

The idea was simple: cup together, have conversations, and hear feedback from the home brewing community. It also happened to be The Room’s very first public cupping. Despite its intimate size, the space quickly filled. The atmosphere became so welcoming that even neighboring stall owners joined in to taste and chat

While everyone had different favorites, three coffees consistently stood out:

• Bali Mangku Weka

• Sudan Rume

• Natcha 02

The response exceeded our expectations and by the end of the event, nearly 90% of the coffees we brought had found new homes

Bar takeover at Deko home bar

Dennis first visited our roastery in Bali as a customer. He was looking for a coffee lineup for his café Deko Home bar which focuses on seasonal coffee selections. Last season was goodies from World of Coffee Bangkok, this season he decided to feature coffees from several Bali roasteries including Everhaos

During his visit, the idea of hosting a bar takeover naturally came up. It felt like the perfect opportunity to serve our coffees and share the stories behind them

As a roastery without a cafè, opportunities like these are incredibly meaningful. Most of the time, our coffees leave the roastery and continue their journey without us. Events like this allow us to meet the people brewing them at home. Throughout the day we welcomed home brewers, daily coffee drinkers, industry friends, and many familiar faces. Some even traveled from other cities just to join us which we are very grateful for

Although the two events couldn’t have been more different; one centered around structured cupping, the other around casual coffee service; they shared the same purpose of bringing together a community of people who genuinely love coffee

These weekends remind us that coffee is never just about what’s in the cup. It’s about the conversations that happen around it and the friendships that grow from shared curiosity.
