A Taste of Indonesia at SCAJ 2026

On 16 October, Everhāos joined our friends at ULT Coffee for a guest shift at SCAJ, Japan’s specialty coffee convention. A gathering point for the industry to connect, exchange ideas, and witness the country’s national coffee competitions

It was also Nadia’s first time in Japan, making the experience all the more memorable. But what we didn’t expect was the response to Indonesian coffee

For the occasion, we brought three coffees to the table: Natcha 02, our bestseller. Java JB, a new release; and Sumatra Ribang, a familiar favourite from our range

In a market where darker roasts are often the norm, we wondered how our approach would be received. Everhāos coffees lean towards medium roasts in filter, preserving the character and complexity of each coffee rather than pushing development too far. Even our espresso roasts are guided by the same philosophy: letting the coffee speak for itself

We anticipated a few raised eyebrows. Instead, we were met with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a genuine appreciation for our filter coffees. The response was so encouraging that we unexpectedly sold out

One of the most interesting conversations we had throughout the day was around the perception of Indonesian coffee. There remains a common misconception that Indonesian coffees are defined by a rough or lingering aftertaste. Yet, time and again, guests remarked on how clean our coffees tasted

A big thank you to the team at ULT Coffee for welcoming us into their booth and helping us communicate our story to the local community. And to everyone who stopped by, tasted our coffees, and took a little piece of Indonesia home with them you for being part of this experience.

We hope you enjoy every cup, whether it’s part of your daily ritual or something you share with someone you love.

Until the next cup, Japan.
